Q&A THE STRESS OF MY FIRST JOB.

Interviewer Juan Garces

Raihan Ahmed, nationality Bangladeshi born in south east London. A student currently working as a retail assistant. Aged 18.

What was it like applying for your first job?

Well, the first time I applied for a job it was a security job and I was so confused, but it wasn’t on my behalf. It was the company that I was applying to, their whole system was very muddled up. When I applied online, I kept on having to restart my applications because there were many bugs with the website, at the time my friend was also applying for the same job. I asked them if he ran into the same problems as me and they said that they did. The company they asked basic questions and they didn’t want to know your important information. Which I felt was unprofessional.  Which led me to quite the Job after the first placement.

Why did you apply for the Job?

Firstly, it was around summer time and I wanted some money and experience. At that point in summer I wasn’t really doing anything and had so many hours in the day not doing anything and wanted to make money because most of the things I wanted to do in summer I needed money to do.

What was the thing you most enjoyed about your first job?

We were able to work many cool and interesting historic events, and I would say that the Kevin heart tour I worked at was the best part of my job. This was the first time I actually got to meet people who work all around the world for a living. I got to meet his camera crew. It was nice seeing people who didn’t come form much like Kevin heart sell out the O2 area.

Why did you end up quitting the job?

After working at the Kevin Heart concert I did not agree nor like the way us as employees were being handled, our checking in and checking out system was on paper and would make it difficult for the company to know how many hours we worked, these papers ended up getting lost and had to call up the company and prove to them that I was working that day, and because of that I felt that the job wasn’t handled with enough care and that’s why I ended up quitting because it wasn’t handled properly.

What do you feel you have learned from this experience?

I feel as if independent work is probably the best work as I feel like working in a team is only good when it’s necessary and if I was to ever work for a company I would want communications to be clearer.
